Growing up just east of the City of Toronto, Ontario in Durham Region, I have long been aware of as well as interested in the legendary haunting that is supposed to take place at Ghost Road in the small town of Port Perry, Ontario. Located just north of the City of Oshawa in Scugog Township, Port Perry is a fairly quiet, quaint town with a population of roughly 8500 and is a very popular place in winter for those who enjoy the Ice Fishing on Lake Scugog.
The legend of Ghost Road has been around since roughly 1968 and although versions of the story may differ slightly, the popular paranormal hot-spot attracts many thrill seekers even to this day.
According to legend, a young man was out riding on his motorcycle late at night, perhaps riding a little too fast when he suddenly realized that the road was about to come to an end at the 9th Concession (Pine Point Rd.). As the young man tried to stop the bike at the last minute he was caught on a section of barbed-wire fencing and just like that, was decapitated killing him instantly. Some stories also say that his body was thrown several meters through the air and landed near a large rock (which is still there to this day I might add) where the ghostly road meets the 9th Concession.
Sounds scary, right? Well legend also has it that if you drive north on Ghost Road roughly half way up and turn your vehicle around to face south (also making sure to turn off your headlights) you will eventually see the ghostly light of a motorcycle riding through the field towards you. They say that this is the ghost of the young man who was so tragically killed on that fateful day in 1968 and he continues to re-live his last moments here on earth. (For those of you who are not aware, this type of haunting is what is commonly referred to as a "Residual Haunting" ~ like a snap-shot in time of psychical energy, or scene from a movie, that is replayed over and over and has no interaction with the physical realm).
I have been up to Ghost Road in Port Perry many times and have personally witnessed on several occasions this ghostly light, along with others who have accompanied me on different occasions. The best time to go is late at night, around 12 midnight or so, but then again there are never any guarantees that the ghost will appear.
I plan on heading back up there very soon and who knows, perhaps I will again see something paranormal ~ if you have had an experience at Ghost Road in Port Perry, feel free to tell me about it! This quaint little town has many a haunt (including the famous Jester's Court Pub & Eatery) which I may at a later date discuss in further detail.
In the meantime, if you're going to go out riding a motorcycle, don't do it in the middle of a field late at night! Or you just may end up becoming a legend yourself!

Hi there. I have lived on Scugog Island (or Port Perry Island as some choose to call it). I live literally a five minute walk from Ghost Road. The light you see is no ghost, even though all kids from around here grow up with the motorcycle story. The light you see is that of headlights from vehicles on roads more south down the island. You see it much more in the winter obviously, due to lack of foliage and reflection of light on snow. I have seen it probably nearly a hundred times. Still fun to scare your friends from out of town or those who believe it. Hint you must face south to see it. Please don't litter when you come,.mu dog and I are sick of picking it up. It is still our neighbourhood. Cheers.
ReplyDeleteLast night, April 22nd, 2017 2 of my friends and myself took a trip to ghost road. We have been there several times and every time we experienced something. Although we have never seen the ghost light or motorcycle, we did hear growls in the woods, and heard like sounded walking around the car. There was one time that the car was in neutral and we were pushed half way down the road. Last night we were there just after midnight. I did take my little pup with me named Sasha. I was walking outside with her and my one friend. All of a sudden i heard a little girl say help me. I had a conversation with her. I believe her name was Sarah. She was hard to understand but she did giggle quite a bit. I asked her to say hello to Sasha and she replied by saying HI Sasha. My pup was drawn to the back of the car where the voice was coming from. Soon after that, we heard a woman crying. It sounded like she was coming from the speakers in the car. The car was not on so there was no way it was the radio. Then a little while later, we heard children singing. The little girl was more aggressive in her singing and made sure we heard her. They sang twinkle twinkle little star and ring around the rosie. We also heard a radio with music and a woman humming. Then when we were sitting in the car, i got decided to get out and both my one friend and i heard a growling noise and i heard like sounded like an old man tell us to get out. Most of the night we were the only car on the road. If another car came on the road all action stopped. We also heard a cellphone keep ringing and every time we moved up the road it followed us. The wind would pick up and the ringing would start. Then the cellphones in the car would light up. It was a very active night. I thanked the spirits for communicating with us and we left to go home. We are planning another trip soon and will be taking some video.
